Luk Tung Sa On 11 is on the whole disappointing,
with more similarities to the pop-influenced luk tung
of some of Jintara's first series albums than to her
more recent work. The first two tracks are easily the best: Khon nam tang jai is a typical Jintara tung song: unlikely to cause a rush of blood to the head, but
nicely turned out and decently done. Track 2, Yaak mi khon khum khrong, is the most interesting: this is tung with a swing in its step and a strong (American) country
influence. Jin adopts an unusual style of very plain singing which sits on the
line between beauty and ugliness, making this the only adventurous track on the
album and the one deserving of the most repeated listens.
At this point, previous Luk Tung Sa Ons included
mor lam numbers to vary the pace, but like Sa On 9, this includes no lam
whatsoever: instead what we are given is a string of mid-tempo tung songs (3, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10) which are cute, but which
have no real meat to them. Tracks 4 and 5 are better: 4 continues the
stripped-down approach of Yaak mi khon khum khrong,
with a video consisting solely of Jintara, without dancers, for some reason in
front of a faux stained-glass window. Track 5, Plianjai hai
bawk, is also quite good, with little hooks in the instrumental parts and
attractive lyrics.

Track 7, Tsunami, is of course a response to the
2004 tsunami, and it stinks. After the September 11 attacks, Jin came out with
the tremendous Arlai World Trade; this maudlin
sentimentality bears no comparison. Track 11, Rak khon law kaw tamjai, is similar to number 4, the only difference being that the window
is white. Track 12 is a fitting conclusion to this album, an unexceptionable,
unexciting song which will fade from the memory long before Sa
On 12 is released.
